세계적인 피아니스트 알렉산더 코브린(Alexander Kobrin)은 깊이 있는 감성과 뛰어난 테크닉을 바탕으로 한 연주로 폭넓은 찬사를 받으며, 오늘날 클래식 음악계를 대표하는 연주자로 자리매김하고 있다.

코브린은 세계 유수의 오케스트라와 협연하는 활발한 객원 독주자로 활동하고 있다. 주요 협연 무대로는 뉴욕 필하모닉, 도쿄 필하모닉, 오케스트라 베르디, 러시아 국립 오케스트라, 잉글리시 체임버 오케스트라, 스위스 로망드 오케스트라, 로열 리버풀 필하모닉, 댈러스 심포니 오케스트라, 베를린 심포니 오케스트라, 스웨덴 방송교향악단, 바르샤바 필하모닉, BBC 심포니 오케스트라 등이 있다.

또한 미하일 플레트뇨프, 미하일 유로프스키, 마크 엘더 경, 바실리 시나이스키, 제임스 콘론, 클라우스 페터 플로어, 바실리 페트렌코, 브램웰 토비 등 세계적인 지휘자들과 협연해왔다.

독주자로서도 세계 주요 공연장에서 활발히 연주하고 있다. 뉴욕의 카네기홀과 에이버리 피셔홀, 워싱턴의 케네디 센터, 런던의 로열 앨버트홀과 위그모어홀, 파리의 루브르 오디토리움, 살 가보, 살 코르토, 독일의 뮌헨 헤라클레스잘과 베를린 필하모니, 모스크바 음악원 대강당, 싱가포르 에스플러네이드홀, 밀라노 살라 베르디 등 세계적인 공연장에서 리사이틀을 선보였다.

이 밖에도 클라이번 시리즈의 배스 홀 공연, 워싱턴 공연예술협회(Washington Performing Arts Society), 라 로크 당테롱 페스티벌, 라비니아 페스티벌, 베토벤 부활절 페스티벌, 부조니 페스티벌, 세계적인 피아노 페스티벌인 루르 피아노 페스티벌(Klavier-Festival Ruhr), 국제 키보드 인스티튜트 & 페스티벌 등에 초청되어 연주했으며, 일본·중국·대만에서도 매년 투어를 이어가고 있다.

코브린은 Harmonia Mundi, Quartz, Centaur 레이블을 통해 폭넓은 피아노 레퍼토리를 담은 음반을 발매했으며, 그의 음반들은 평단으로부터 높은 평가를 받아왔다.

반 클라이번 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 우승을 비롯해, 국제 무대에서 개최되는 주요 피아노 콩쿠르에서도 뛰어난 성과를 거두었다. 주요 수상 경력으로는 부조니 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 1위, 하마마쓰 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 최우수상, 글래스고 스코틀랜드 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 1위 등이 있다.

코브린은 현재 세계적인 피아노 콩쿠르의 심사위원으로도 활발히 활동하고 있다. 반 클라이번, 부조니, 파데레프스키, 하마마쓰, 서울 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 등 주요 국제 콩쿠르의 심사위원을 역임했다.

교육자로서도 남다른 열정을 가지고 있는 코브린은 미국과 해외에서 음악 교육에 꾸준히 기여하고 있다. 2017년부터 뉴욕 로체스터에 위치한 이스트만 음악대학(Eastman School of Music) 교수진으로 재직하고 있으며, 2003년부터 2010년까지는 러시아 국립 그네신 음악 아카데미 교수로 활동했다.

2010년에는 콜럼버스 주립대학교 슈보 음악대학(Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University)의 L. 렉스퍼드 피아노 석좌교수로 임명되었으며, 2013년부터 2017년까지는 뉴욕대학교 스타인하트 스쿨(NYU Steinhardt School)의 저명한 아티스트 교수진으로 활동했다.

현재 유럽과 아시아를 비롯해 일본과 중국의 음악원 등에서 매년 마스터클래스를 개최하며 후학 양성에도 힘쓰고 있다.

최근 주요 활동으로는 Centaur Records를 통한 베토벤 피아노 소나타 전곡 프로젝트와 미국 및 아시아 지역에서의 활발한 공연 활동이 있다.

2024년 1월, 코브린은 이스트만 음악대학의 석좌교수로 임명되며 ‘Wentworth Family Professor’라는 명예 직함을 받았다. 이어 2026년 여름 피아노과 학과장(Chair of Piano Department)으로 임명되었다.

Distinguished pianist Alexander Kobrin, has received wide acclaim for his emotional, technically inspired performances, placing him at the forefront of today’s performing artists.

Mr. Kobrin is an active guest soloist with the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, Orchestra Verdi, Russian National Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, Berliner Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

He has collaborated with such conductors as Mikhail Pletnev, Mikhail Jurovsky, Sir Mark Elder, Vassiliy Sinaisky, James Conlon, Claus Peter Flor, Vassiliy Petrenko and Bramwell Tovey.

He appears in recitals at major halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, the Kennedy Centre in Washington, Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Louvre Auditorium, Salle Gaveau and Salle Cortot in Paris, Munich Herkulesaal and Berliner Philharmonie Hall in Germany, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, Esplanade Hall in Singapore as well as Sala Verdi in Milan and many others. Other performances include recitals at Bass Hall for the Cliburn Series, the Washington Performing Arts Society, La Roque d'Antheron, the Ravinia Festival, the Beethoven Easter Festival, Busoni Festival, the renowned Klavier-Festival Ruhr, the International Keyboard Institute & Festival, annual concert tours in Japan, China, and Taiwan.

Mr. Kobrin has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Quartz, and Centaur labels, covering a wide swath of the piano literature, which have received rave reviews.

In addition to the Van Cliburn, Mr. Kobrin has garnered top prizes from numerous international piano competitions including the Busoni International Piano Competition (First Prize), Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (Top Prize), Scottish International Piano Competition in Glasgow (First Prize).

Mr. Kobrin frequently serves as a jury member for many international piano competitions, including the Van Cliburn, Busoni, Paderewski, Hamamatsu and Seoul international piano competitions. Mr. Kobrin is a dedicated teacher and is passionate about his contributions to education both in the U.S. and abroad. Since 2017, Mr. Kobrin has served on the faculty of the renowned Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. From 2003 to 2010 he served on the faculty of the Russian State Gnessin’s Academy of Music. In 2010 Alexander Kobrin was named the L. Rexford Distinguished Chair in Piano at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, and from 2013 until 2017, he was a member of the celebrated Artist Faculty of New York University’s Steinhardt School. Mr. Kobrin is giving annual masterclasses in Europe and Asia, at the Conservatories of Japan and China.

Recent highlights include the Complete Beethoven Sonatas Project for Centaur Records and live performances in USA and Asia.

In January 2024 Mr. Kobrin was awarded an endowed professorship and received a title Wentworth Family Professor at Eastman School of music, followed by the appointment as a Chair of Piano Department in the summer of 2026.
